• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Babbi-Dan -- Couldn’t put this book down! : I thought I would read a chapter or two of this book this morning but soon found I just couldn’t put it down. Needless to say, I didn’t check off one thing on my to-do list, but I felt I had no choice. I loved this book. It held my attention right from the beginning, and I was surprised at the ending when all the details were wrapped up nicely. I could see this made into a movie. I gave it five stars because I really enjoyed it, know that I will be remembering this one for a long time, and it held my interest from the get go, which is something few books do since I tend to get bored easily. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good mystery. For me, it was more of a mystery than a ghost story. ( Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2018 )
• 5.0 out of 5 stars from scapps -- Awesomely haunting... : Had no clue what I'd downloaded to read last Sunday. Something to pull reality away so I could shut down for the night and sleep. It started out nicely, meaning the characters caught my interest fast enough. First couple nights, glad it awaited me to retire to. Next night I was fighting sleep to read more... By Friday day it invaded my thoughts. Had to laugh because I was wishing I didn't have plans that night so I could retire with the story. Drats, exhausted I fell asleep still missing out on an ending. Saturday morning found myself on the sofa with the kindle finally going to cease the noise in my head. Emotionally connected with the characters. Each time I thought I knew what was coming I was delighted I was wrong. Great story. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2018 )

The hotel has just been described simultaneously as ‘boutique’ and having in excess of 11 floors with corridors stretching away like highways. Needs a sport of re-editing by someone.. The characters were much more interesting and you actually care about what happens to them. It was really puzzling at first about what was real!y going on but I final!y got an inkling about halfway through. However, I found out that I didn't quite have it all right. I do wish she would reveal where this hotel is like the location was revealed in The Venetian because it seems to make it more eerie if you know such a place truly exists. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Cindy -- Pulled in to the story quickly! : This is not the type of book I would normally pick up to read, but it was my book group choice for last month. I ended up loving it and actually recommended it to be read by the second book group to which I belong. I enjoyed the "I think I know what is going on here." feeling, that would then turn in to a "Well, maybe not?" after the next few chapters read. There was a connection to the main character which kept me reading in to the night to find out what was happening here. I found this a very enjoyable read. One of her decisions is to visit the American hotel where they spent their honeymoon and – she believes – where she was conceived, however when driving to the Egrees during a nasty snowstorm, her car veers off the road and crashes, leaving her with a head injury but able to battle on to the hotel down the road. Hard to understand & myself being an impatient person, was starting to lose interest. As I'm not a person to give up reading a book part way through, I persevered & I'm very glad that I did! An assortment of very different characters all with strange stories behind their sometimes ' odd ' behaviour, twists and turns that can seem confusing at times. The supernatural nature & the reasons behind all the characters strange behaviours starts to reveal themselves & then your hooked, right to the very end ! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lelly -- I loved it. : I'm not sure how Hotel Egress would rate on Trip Advisor, but if Art Deco charm served with a very large side order of weird and creepy is you thing then it's 5 stars all the way! Caroline can sense immediately that all is not quite right when she checks in to the isolated hotel, but as she gets to know the (very) odd assortment of residents and restlessly explores the seemingly endless corridors, the the her sense of foreboding increases to the point of terror, and a desperate urge to leave...is it just the snow storm that prevents her?
